Old Post Office

We were engaged by architects Walker Cunnington to provide services design for the refurbishment of the Old Parcels Office located on Scarborough Train Station.  The space was constructed in 1883 as a waiting room, and in 1908 became the parcels office.  The space is grade II listed. As such it required a sympathetic design yet one that suited the new space as an arts space housing exhibition and events for the Artspace operator (OPO).

The design comprised new lighting and radiant heating derived from a gas boiler.  A theme of exposed services was devised with limited impact on the fabric of the building.  The building fabric was to remain as original so the radiant heating provides heat for the occupants without concerns for excessive heat loss which would be experienced via the older u-values.
