“Gatecrasher” refers to the former nightclub, that occupied the site. The new design was for a multi-storey building providing student accommodation in cluster style apartments, with the ground floor being commercial uses and common space exclusively for student use, such as common room and cinema. The whole building is arranged with a central courtyard maximizing natural light and creating a sheltered outside space.
The design was developed with long established Sheffield developer Elmsdale Estates.
Our services design used LED lighting throughout and heat recovery ventilation in student lounges. The whole building has heating, and hot water provided by the Sheffield District heating system, which uses heat generated by incineration of domestic waste. This allows a high level of renewable contribution to the energy certificate.”
