Carlisle Health Hub

We were engaged by UHDL (our client) to be the M&E consultant for their new build low-energy GP hub in Carlisle.   From the start UHDL aspiration was for a very low energy building, which they would build and lease to the NHS.

The space comprises GP surgeries and ancillary offices, pharmacy and Café space.  The building achieved BREEAM Outstanding and an EPC A+ rating - operational carbon net zero.

This was achieved by a 220-kW solar panel installation and very low u-values and excellent air tightness.   The whole building uses a heat recovery ventilation system with electric heating and point-of-use water heaters.  Heating is only required for short periods due to the heat retention of the fabric and efficiency of the ventilation.as subsequently been rolled out to two more hubs, currently in construction.

The building was completed in Dec 2022.
